School Governor (Volunteer Role)

Summit Education Trust – West Berkshire

Becoming a school governor is one of the most practical and rewarding ways to support your local community. At Summit Education Trust, our governors come from all walks of life, bringing different perspectives shaped by their careers, experiences and interests.

You do not need a background in education. We welcome individuals from any sector or stage of life who are willing to contribute their time, judgement and curiosity. What matters is a shared commitment to improving outcomes for young people.

As a governor, you will work at a strategic level, supporting and constructively challenging school leaders. You will help shape the direction of the school, monitor performance and ensure resources are used effectively. This is not a day-to-day operational role, but one focused on long-term impact.

The role typically involves attending several meetings each year, along with some preparation and occasional visits to the school. In return, governors gain valuable experience in leadership, governance and decision-making, while working alongside others who care deeply about education.

Above all, it is an opportunity to make a genuine difference in your community, helping to ensure every child has access to a high-quality education and the best possible start in life.
